SoCal Wine Country Women’s Half Marathon & 5k

May 30, 2020

Registration Closed – Virtual Run for 2020

With everything going on in the world right now, one bright spot I’ve been clinging to is the optimism that I would get to see all of you amazing women gathered together on May 30th to celebrate, get dirty on the trails, and party it up afterward!

It crushes me to announce that, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I will not be able to host the 9th Annual SoCal Wine Country Women’s Half Marathon & 5K at the Vail Lake Resort. After painstaking deliberation, I have made the difficult decision to alter this year’s event.

Holding the race on May 30th is not in the best interest of our amazing running community. In alignment with recommendations from our top medical experts, the health and safety of each individual runner, our running community, and the greater community around us is what matters most. Your safety and experience is my number one priority!

That being said, I still want to provide a fun experience for every one of you who wants to participate and offer some options to alleviate the stress and anxiety that can come from canceling plans you have been looking forward to.

Unfortunately, being so close to the event, the majority of race expenses have already been spent in preparation for our annual gathering. Being a small, one-person business, attempting to offer refunds to all participants would devastate my ability to continue to host events in the future.

To provide runners that have already signed up with a positive outcome to this disappointing news, I have three options to choose from:

  1. We’re going VIRTUAL! I’ll be transitioning the race to a virtual event so that we can still gather (online) and support, celebrate, and encourage each other through our training and race day. Anyone participating in the virtual event will have their race bib, shirt, medal, wine glass (Yes, the same real GLASS wine glass you would get at the race), and race sticker mailed directly to you at no extra cost. The virtual race will feature a Facebook Group for us all to join together to encourage and celebrate. I really hope you will join us for this option so we can continue the 9-year tradition of celebrating women, running, trails, and wine!
  2. Roll it on over! If a virtual event just isn’t for you, it’s OK! You can roll your entry over to 2021! There’s no cost or fee associated with deferring to next year, just let me know.
  3. Join us elsewhere! Don’t want to join the virtual fun or wait until next June? You can roll your entry fee into one of my other Off Road Pursuits events. This would include the 2020 Lake Hodges Trail Fest on October 24th, the San Diego 50 Mile & Marathon (tentatively scheduled for 1/16/21), or the Lake Hodges Trail Fest in October 2021!

I’m sure you are as upset and frustrated with this announcement as I am. But I hope we can all make the best out of it with our virtual run while keeping an eye on the bigger picture of the health and safety of ourselves, our running community, and the greater community around us.

I’m so very sorry we won’t be able to gather together for the fun day we have come to look forward to over the years. But I truly hope we can all get together (virtually) on May 30th for a great run and raise a glass of wine to toast each other after! I’m going to miss seeing all of your amazing faces crossing the finish line this year. But these challenges are just going to make next year’s event even better.

Remember, nothing stops a runner!

Paul Jesse
Race Director

Join us for a celebration of running, trails, competition and friendship. Explore this beautiful and challenging course. Push yourself to new limits. Then, toast your accomplishments at the post-race celebration.

All participants receive a technical T-shirt, logo’d wine glass, and custom wine bottle stopper finisher’s medal! Afterwards, we’ll have food, drink (including wine, of course), and products from our sponsors.

Both the Half Marathon and the 5K will sell out. Registration will close once race has reached capacity. Price increases will occur on the first of each month until the race sells out. The earlier you sign up, the lower your entry fee!

*Off Road Pursuits has a strict no refund/transfer policy.

Men – this is your chance to come out and support the women in your lives. Show your wife, girlfriend, sister, mother, daughters and friends how much you love them and their running! We can always use volunteers, too!

When you sign up as a team of women, you’ll save $5 per person off your registration fee! Only teams with at least 4 runners participating in the same distance will receive a team result.

How To Create a Team:

  1. The first member of your team to register must select “Create/Join A Team” from the left hand menu during the registration process on She is now the “Team Captain.”
  2. As Team Captain, create a Team Name and a password to give out to your teammates so that they can join your team.
  3. As the remaining members of the team join, they will select “Join a team” during the registration process and select the team they are joining.
  4. Once the 4th team member registers, the $5 discount will be refunded to all team members.

Important: Creating a team DOES NOT reserve spots for your teammates. Make sure all team members sign up before registration is full! ALL members of the team must be registered before the event sells out.
